SENIOR PROJECT OFFICER - INDIGENOUS RANGER MENTOR PROJECT

Based: Perth

Full Time for 24 months

The Indigenous Desert Alliance is a not for profit company whose members are Indigenous land management organisatons working in the deserts of Australia. With staff based in Alice Springs and Perth,  the Indigenous Desert Alliance (IDA) works  to empower Indigenous people managing Australia’s desert country to realise their social/cultural, environmental and economic aspirations.

 We are seeking an experienced, organised and people oriented person to fill the role of Senior Project Officer – Ranger Coordinator Mentor Project. This project is focused on supporting capacity building for desert rangers and specifically on working with ranger coordinators and senior Indigenous rangers within our membership base.

The role will provide direct mentoring support to senior Indigenous rangers to enhance professional mobility for rangers within the industry.

The role will also focus on supporting coordinators and rangers to develop a ‘two way’ mentoring relationship including strategies for intercultural and professional learning and exchange. 

Key elements of the Ranger Coordinator Mentor Project will be

  • Identifying and recruiting a cohort of senior rangers to participate in the project and assessing their mentoring needs

  • delivery of mentoring services at various remote locations across the IDA representative areas; “the desert

  • facilitation of  workshops

  • co-design of a  ‘two way’ mentoring framework for Indigenous rangers and coordinators

The successful person will be,

  • outcomes oriented

  • have demonstrated experience and a strong desire to  building meaningful,  trusting and professional relationships with Indigenous people

  • have skills and experience managing complex projects,  particularly in a related field such as land management or community development.
