The 10 Deserts Project

An Indigenous-led partnership for healthy Country, healthy people and a strong Indigenous voice.

Connected, collaborative, Indigenous desert land management at scale.

The 10 Deserts Project (10DP) was set up under the auspices of Desert Support Services and was subsequently led by the Indigenous Desert Alliance (IDA). It involved some of Australia’s most established Indigenous desert land management organisations. The project was supported by regional and international conservation partners and enabled by the BHP Foundation.

Thank You

The IDA gratefully acknowledges the work and achievements of the project partners, conservation partners and the BHP Foundation. The 10DP was a landmark project for the people and organisations of the desert. It built on the enduring connection to country that has shaped the culture and practice of the people of the Australian deserts for time immemorial. The IDA and project partners are grateful for the commitment of supporters and staff from all the organisations that contributed. We will be forever thankful for the trust that desert rangers and traditional owners have placed in us to help improve Indigenous livelihoods and build the environmental resilience of this globally significant landscape.
