On Country Events

On country events brings rangers, scientists and stakeholders together to build knowledge and develop strategies to look after the desert

Species of the Desert Festival 2019

The Species of the Desert Festival was hosted by the Paruku and Kumirrki Rangers from PARUKU IPA in the Great Sandy Desert WA, with support of IDA member KLC. Rangers came together to talk about how they were planning to look after threatened species, like the newly re-discovered Night Parrot, as well as planning and discussions on ensuring that culturally significant animals were being looked after. Despite being held at the one of the most remote places on the planet, it was attended by around 300 people including several ranger teams from across the border in NT as well scientists, politician and even First Dog on the Moon.
