Keeping the desert connected
2023/24 marked a decade of connection for the Indigenous Desert Alliance network that had its first meeting of groups in 2014. The IDA has come a long way from that meeting in 2014 but what made it work then still makes it work today, the strength of connection between desert rangers and the desire to work together.
This year, the IDA continued its fire and significant species programs, demonstrating best practice Indigenous led, landscape scale conservation. Underpinning this were development projects, network events, ranger exchanges and trainings that are fundamental to a healthy network of rangers and a strong Indigenous land management sector.
"This report demonstrates our alliance is strong, with good foundation in place to take on the opportunities that our collaborative network makes possible. This report is also a story of learning, sharing and working together. It’s a story of our love of Country and the determination of desert rangers to care for our homelands like our old people always have." – Boyd Elston, IDA Chairperson
