Registrations for the 2026 IDA Conference are now open.
Since 2019, IDA has been working towards the development of culturally informed methods focused on re-establishing right way fire across the desert.
Through supporting right way fire at landscape scale, these methods will strengthen desert ranger teams, support cultural practice that looks after the desert and its people, and improve the resilience of desert biodiversity.
The IDA is developing a suite of methods that help Indigenous land management organisations measure, report on, and access funding for the impact of ranger work on Country.
CARBON
The IDA is working to bring Savanna Fire Management carbon credits to Australia's Northern Arid Zone desert country for the first time, with projects expected to open for registration in 2027.
BIODIVERSITY
The IDA's Desert Habitat Method — accredited by Accounting for Nature in 2022 — gives desert ranger teams a science-backed, culturally grounded tool to measure and protect biodiversity across Australia's spinifex desert country.
BIODIVERSITY
The IDA is scoping a Rangelands Habitat Method for the Australian Government's Nature Repair Market, building on the Desert Habitat Method to value the work desert ranger teams looking after country through right-way fire and invasive species management.
