Right way desert fire

Burning has been integral to Indigenous cultural practices for over 65,000 years.

Today, it serves as the primary conservation and land management tool in desert regions while maintaining its importance in ceremony, hunting and other cultural practices.

Desert Rangers undertake a program of 'right way' burning, creating a patchwork of fire scars and vegetation regrowth which act as natural fire breaks.

Outcomes of right way burning are reduction in the frequency, intensity, and scale of large wildfires that release significant amounts of carbon and destroy biodiversity.
